nevermind...that was not my issue. It was importing files with multiple periods... I have to go back and see what is going on.

export to txt file using dir
I am using the command below to export to a txt file, but it missed all files with periods in part of the file name (i.e. "myfilename 2.21.2007 east_coast - (blue).xlsm" ) dir "\\USATL02ERAS40\Images\Walgreens\VSF_Ingestion\Vendor Submission XLSB All 050218\*.xls*" /A /B /S > XLSB_Walgreens_2017_3.t...

The results I got back were correct:

funny chars in xcopy
I did an xcopy command to copy the path and file names of about 500,000 files and saved it to a txt file. Some filenames did not keep the accent/funny chars that are part of the file names. i.e. This is the actual file name: 1027948_16356344_wk 35 @NIVEA BODY@48965 Body 625ml 77240 CrŠme Soft 250-20...
