Hi. I am cleaning my disk and removing old data. I found this file where I stored some foxidrive's phrases posted as replies to beginners that seems instructive or funny to me, so I am posting this file here in memory of him.

The actual details of the task are needed to write a script that will work.

If you tell your partner to go to the hardware store and buy you 3 bolts, do you think they will come home with the 3 different sized bolts that you wanted: two brass ones in metric, and one stainless steel bolt in imperial, all in the right gauge?

The same thing applies in writing scripts - all the details are important.

Tell your local builder that you want a garage on your property.

If you don't tell him if you want it in the front or the rear,
and how large to build it, and exactly where you want it built,
and what you want it built out of - if you want a roller door or not
then how will he even begin to build it??

Just commenting here that that is something that wasn't revealed about the task.
I often argue with question-writers about how they should discuss the real task, as it's not our job to drag details of the task out of them.

In this case too, the task is largely unknown - and is like you visiting the dentist to get your tooth fixed, but you won't tell the dentist which tooth hurts.

At least the Dentist can examine your teeth and tell for themselves.

You aren't able to explain the task clearly - I've asked questions to help you provide the information that is needed but I don't understand the steps you are doing.

Your explanation is like telling me how to go from Sydney to Brisbane:
Get on a train, and then take a bus, and walk down that street, and you're there.

I found this post after more than two years.

I have experienced the death of some relatives, the death of some closely related animals.

Just seen this myself. I have been enjoying the help of Foxidrive for probably two decades I think. He was one of the first to ever help me out when asking questions, and more than likely just writing the scripts since even after all this time I only have basic knowledge for coding anything. First helped me back in the 90's on newsgroups.

His willingness to help an ignorant person like me did make my life better.
