Survey Popup - RESULTS
Results from our recent survey, thanks to everyone who participated.
There is interest to having Powershell tips on dostips.com.
There is also interest for bash tips but mixed opinion about where it should go.
The email collection form was not so well received, so it got removed.
Best,
Peter Hartmann (admin)

Thanks for sharing the results Peter!
Did you already forge a plan?

Re: Survey Popup - RESULTS
powershell is widely covered on the net, vb/j-script isn't, specialization is key.

Re: Survey Popup - RESULTS
The powershell community is still in need of an open forum like this IMO.
Re: Survey Popup - RESULTS
Since for years (decades?) this forum has only had one forum--DOS Batch--why not simply add forums for Powershell and Bash and see what happens? If there isn't enough activity you can always hide/delete them.

Hi folks ,
I'm sorry that this request survey slipped under the radar for me, I would have liked to put forward additional suggestions for small ASM/debug scripts that would compliment batch-files in both Dos & CMD. I think Debug is present in OS's up to Windows7 Me thinks, along with a more recent debug (3rd Party) although not M$ is supposed to be superior to the MS Version (kinda writing small com/exe files).
Also as a companion to batch files means and methods, experimentation of converting small complimentary binary files to ASCII files to insert within batch files, although there are caveats in the undertaking things like this would be interesting to me to overcome things like `backticks` command substitution to backfill those areas that bat/batch files are prone to weakness. Also another area of interest could be batch file enhancers like 4dos, "Clink- Powerful Bash-style command line editing for cmd.exe" NIRCMD, (setting up keystrokes etc) NDos that kind of genre etc to showcase some of the enhanced features these can facilitate.
I'm sorry I feel I have come in after the horse has left the stable but some of the above I feel are indirectly related to Dos/CMD etc Maybe suggestions possible in the future perhaps we wouldn't want to spread the jam too thinly LOL?
Best Regards,
Ispy

Re: Survey Popup - RESULTS
I am new here and not much of a coder, but have been hanging around forums for decades now, so I was wondering:
#1] Why isn't there already a PowerShell sub-forum here?
#2] Why isn't there already a overall coding related sub-forum here?
#3] Why isn't there an off-topic section?
The first one seems kind of natural to a noob like me, who understands PowerShell as a successor to CMD. As for the other two: I myself often ask about off-topic things on forums where I am known well enough to hope for attention from other users

Re: Survey Popup - RESULTS
Because this is a specialized forum about a specific topic. I'd like to direct your attention to the very top of the website, where it reads "A Forum all about DOS Batch." Admittedly this isn't as true as it used to be since command.com was deprecated in Windows NT, but it's still batch. If you want a powershell sub-forum, there are ones on ss64 and Microsoft's forums.
What are you looking for from an "overall coding-related sub-forum?" Just all languages? Why? Every language has its own community (usually more than one) somewhere.
There's no off-topic section because this is a technical forum is primarily used by experts. You might as well ask a PhD student why they aren't taking any electives. If you want off-topic, reddit.com/r/batch (or the Discord server in its sidebar) would be happy to have you.

Then, if it was up to me, I would gladly create something like Non-DOS Batch Sub-Forums - a post in it one post explaining what you just did. And the block the ability to post any more messages there
Maybe this topic should be turned into such side-forum here?
