As this is a dos batch forum, a batch only solution would be desireable but is missing

Personally, I like the fact that posts sometimes extend into vbscript. I never used it all until I saw a post here about it and I can now write some basic vbscripts when I need them.

And technically since Cscript is a Native command line command and can be used in a batch file I don't see why anyone should be opposed to it being used in examples where there simply is no other native way to accomplish the task.

There are other posts regarding 3rd party command line apps and they tend to be ok, but it always seems like someone points out that vbscript isn't batch... I don't get it. Especially when using DEBUG to utilize assembly is also considered ok here.

On the other hand, I also like that this is a fairly active forum mostly dedicated to batch files because it has to be one of the few in existence and I'd hate to see it turn into a VBForum :)

The title of this forum is "Discussion forum for all WinXP batch related topics."
So, the topic is clearly defined and for my understanding we should talk about things which affect the command line. But what should we do if there is no (good) solution with pure batch? Should we tell the questioner "Sorry, no way using batch." and should we omit pointing out an alternative even if there is a simple script in a different language or a 3rd party tool?
Of course I will lock or delete off topic themes, such like "Could somebody please convert this vbs into a js" or "What's wrong with my c++ code", but i will allow something like "I know there is no way in batch, I'd like to show you an alternative in <language X>..." or "You could call that <X script> from the command line ..."
